CHRISTUS SOUTHEAST TEXAS St. Mary located in Port Arthur, Texas, is a 227-bed acute care hospital providing comprehensive services including orthopedics, cardiology, oncology, general surgery, birthing, and neonatal care. St. Mary, designated as a Level IV Trauma Center, is the only state-designated trauma services provider in South and Mid-Jefferson County.
Highly skilled physicians utilize advanced technology, including the heart bypass surgery program and cardiac catheterization services capable of 3-D rotational angiography. The team has received national recognition, including the AHA’s Heart Failure Treatment Honor Roll Achievement Award.
The campus features a new, fully renovated Pediatric Unit, as well as an expanded outpatient chemotherapy unit.
As the largest Magnet hospital between Houston and Baton Rouge, CHRISTUS Hospital offers a positive, patient-focused environment providing the highest level of care possible for the community.
The hospital utilizes innovative technology to care for patients including electronic medical records, wireless access for patients and guests, and mobile PDA devices for medical staff to perform dictation and e-prescribing.
St. Mary also provide cardiac alert services – which allow local EMS providers to transmit data to the hospital before the patient arrives.
Recognized For Quality in Cardiac Care
A good measure of quality is recognition from national and regional organizations that specialize in cardiology.
CHRISTUS SOUTHEAST TEXAS St. Mary is recognized by the American Heart Association (AHA) as a Get With The Guidelines® hospital. This recognition signifies that we have reached an aggressive goal of preventing recurrent hospitalizations and prolonging the lives of heart failure patients.
CHRISTUS SOUTHEAST TEXAS St. Mary received the 2012 Get With The Guidelines-Heart Failure® Gold Quality Achievement Award from the American Heart and the American Stroke Associations. The recognition signifies that St. Mary has acheived 85% or higher adherence to all Get With The Guidelines-Heart Failure Performance Achievement indicators for consecutive 12 month intervals in addition to documentation of all three Target: Heart Failure care components for 50% or more of elibible patients with heart failure discharged from the hospital during one calendar quarter.
Under Get With The Guidelines-Heart Failure®, heart failure patients are started on aggressive risk reduction therapies such as cholesterol-lowering drugs, beta-blockers, ACE inhibitors, aspirin, diuretics and anticoagulants while in the hospital. They also receive alcohol/drug use and thyroid management counseling as well as referrals for cardiac rehabilitation before being discharged.
CHRISTUS SOUTHEAST TEXAS St. Elizabeth and St. Mary have received advanced certification as Primary Stroke Centers. Stroke Ready teams in both hospitals coordinate efforts with EMS for patients en route to the ED to activate stroke alert protocols. These include the introduction and delivery of TPA, the clot-busting drug, in the ED and utilization of best practices designed to reduce long-term disablity from stroke. CHRISTUS SOUTHEAST TEXAS St. Elizabeth and St. Mary have established a telemedicine partnership with St. Luke's Neuroscience Department in Houston, providing around-the-clock neurology coverage and extending the neurology expertise from St. Luke's to the Emergency Department physicians at both hospitals.
CHRISTUS Outpatient Center
The CHRISTUS Outpatient Center is located on 18 acres along Highway 73 in Port Arthur. The center provides full imaging services including open bore, high definition MRI and CT scans. Providing convenient diagnostic, lab and physical therapy services, the Outpatient Center is also home to the region’s first Women’s Imaging Center and offers a comfortable, relaxing, spa-like environment for advanced diagnostic imaging, including digital mammography, breast ultrasound, bone density screening, and computer assisted detection.

CHRISTUS Women's Center
The CHRISTUS Women's Imaging Center in the Outpatient Center at St. Mary is the first Certified Participant in the National Consortium of Breast Center's Quality Institutive Program in the area.
