Breast Health
CHRISTUS Hospital has joined with thousands of organizations and communities across the country to help bring life-saving breast cancer awareness information to women in Southeast Texas.
According to the American Cancer Society, approximately one woman in eight will develop breast cancer, making it second only to skin cancer as the most common cancer in women. The good news is there’s a 97% chance of recovery if the cancer is caught before it spreads.
This web site contains a variety of educational tools and materials to enhance your knowledge and understanding about the importance of early detection through monthly breast self-exams, clinical breast exams, and mammograms.
CHRISTUS Quality
CHRISTUS Hospital–St. Elizabeth and St. Mary has received multiple national and local awards honoring it as the best in a variety of healthcare specialties including cancer treatment. The CHRISTUS Mamie McFaddin-Ward Cancer Center on the St. Elizabeth campus in Beaumont is one of only 18 facilities in Jefferson County that is accredited by the American College of Surgeons as a Community Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Program.

Along with standard screening and diagnostic mammography, breast MRI, and breast ultrasound, CHRISTUS Hospital-St. Elizabeth and St. Mary also offers Miraluma breast imaging – a sophisticated nuclear test that uses gamma rays to detect cancer. This diagnostic procedure is used to support the mammogram if there is dense breast tissue or scarring from surgery, radiation, calcium deposits or breast implants. CHRISTUS Hospital also uses computer-aided detection (CAD) used to detect cancer at the earliest stages. The R2 Image Checker® System helps radiologists by digitizing and analyzing mammograms for suspicious regions that may indicate breast cancer. This diagnostic tool highlights suspicious areas that might indicate abnormalities.
